in 1995, lewis elected to drop out of the college he had just completed, and fled to denver, colorado where he worked as a janitor and assistant janitor at the university of denver, and shared his dylan songs with passers-by while hitch-hiking across the southwest. in 1997, he took a risk and tried out a new approach on songs he had written for a solo album. to his surprise, these songs were a popular choice for a project called the fishontonboys, and for the next few years lewis kept the group together while performing as a solo artist. in 2003, lewis decided to disband the fishontonboys in order to devote his time to writing and recording new songs. the name “audioslave” was chosen to describe the different sounds in his music, and was soon followed by a solo album, audioslave . the heavy metal / alternative rock album was produced by lewis, and featured some of the best musicians in rock, including jimmy chamberlin, james murphy, and jason newsted.
Dusk Till Dawn (1978) The much-ballyhooed return of Billy Joel to his roots. The two-disc set comprises four solo recordings from the late 70s, and a collection of songs written by Billy Joel between the start of his solo career and his first album with The Blue Man Group,Stormy Weather. Also available:The Bump N Gass albums are my introduction to Billy Joel. Theyre not a patch on Leningrad by the same artist, but what little of the three albums I have, they are very listenable, and the non-singles are no slouches either. Theres also a track, Funny Little Frog, from their 1988 albumThe Bridge, that has a very similar feel to this very song, which makes me wonder if there is any relation. Not that its a bad thing, they are very different. Some of his songs were very simplistic, others a bit more thought out, but he never totally let down the audience. If you can get into the mood of the song and that guys catalogue, youll get some great melodies and catchy lyrics, and youll probably be enjoying them for years. Greatest Hits (1990) A three-disc collection of his best songs. Its still without doubt his best collection of songs, and certainly its far from his worst. I found one of my favourite songs on the album, and something that I find both funny and a bit sad is that he has written a song called The Box. I personally think its is the most autobiographical thing he has done, and it makes you wonder if this, the musicians’ union strike and the Kiss a Lot debacle were the things that haunted Joel during the 80s. 5ec8ef588b
